Job Description

Our client is a supplier of licensed character clothing to many of the UK's leading highstreet retailers.  They are looking for a Designer at any level, with experience of licensed clothing to work on their product range which consists of casual jersey, nightwear and underwear across ladies, mens and childrenswear.

Designer - The Role:

  • Working in conjunction with the Design Manager to provide design solutions for various clothing product types including prints, embroideries, packaging, branding etc
  • Identifying new commercial opportunities for the design dept such as new licenses, print methods or design features to generate sales opportunities
  • Creating presentation sheets according to the customer’s requirements and originating accurate artwork and specifications for the supplier's guidance, attending customer meetings as necessary
  • Responding quickly and effectively with suppliers, customers and licensor's as necessary to ensure artwork is understood and interpreted correctly
  • To maintain a commercial awareness of garment costs and provide design solutions with creative focus in-line with the customer's budget
  • Research and source new prints, fabrics and trims and update the rest of the team
  • Research customer requirements including competitive shopping to understand capabilities of customers and competitors
  • To organise garment designs into the necessary format required for approval by the licensor
  • To review, analyse and comment on strike-offs in accordance with the related artwork
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging trends and apply this to design solutions where appropriate
  • Carry out duties within the required time frame and in-line with the critical path 

Designer - The Candidate:

  • Creative flair and experience in designing innovative and commercial clothing ranges to tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate ideas and concept effectively
  • A sound understanding of clothing construction and of all garment applications/embellishments (print, embroidery, appliqué etc)
  • Excellent fashion forecasting skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • CAD skills, proficient in using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop as well as MS Office, email etc
  • Effective time management and an ability to provide effective design solutions to tight deadlines
  • Good organisational and communication skills with the ability to prioritise workloads according to priority and work as part of a team
